وأوضح بيان لادارة العلاقات العامة والإعلام في الشرطة أن شرطة السياحة والآثار في بيت لحم تلقت معلومات مفادها قيام مجموعه من المنقبين عن الآثار بالعمل في خربة أثرية بالقرب من مدينة بيت احور، فداهمت الشرطة الموقع وتبين وجود حفريات وعثرت على أجزاء شبة مكتملة لتابوت مصنوع من الرصاص بطول 92 سم وعرض 23 سم مزخرف بنقوش رومانيه يعتقد بأنها تعود لحوالي 2000 سنة. وحسب تقديرات أولية لخبراء دائرة الآثار أكدت بأن المادة المضبوطة نادرة جدا وذات قيمه وبعد اثري وثقافي عالي، فحمت قوة من شرطة السياحة والآثار الموقع وقد باشر خبراء الآثار بوزارة السياحة والآثار عملهم بحضور صاحب الأرض لفحص الموقع والتأكد من خلوه من آثار أخرى.
من جهته أكد الرائد زياد الخطيب مدير شرطة السياحة والآثار في بيت لحم، أنهم سيسلمون المواد المضبوطة لدائرة الآثار لفحص قيمتها الأثرية، وأهاب أيضا بالمواطنين الإبلاغ عن أي عملية تنقيب عن الآثار أو تخريب بالاتصال على الرقم المجاني للشرطة (100)، للحفاظ على آثارنا من السرقة والضياع.
